Heavy riders can be beautiful riders… We can be – when we are in a beautiful riding seat on a happy horse.
The weight of a human on their back is not an issue for our horse – when we are riding with the strength of a magnetised riding seat and when our horse has lifted their back and is carrying themselves with strength and grace.
I put on a heap of weight very fast when I stopped smoking – a very big heap of weight – and I stopped riding because I was worried that all that extra weight would be too hard for Bobby who is only just over 15.2 hands.
I vividly remember Bobby coming to me with an invitation to ride when he said to me ”I can carry any weight with joy.” It still makes me smile.
When a horse is in self carriage, their back is bowed up, it is lifted up underneath you and they are carrying you with strength and grace. Their stride is soft and rhythmic and easy to ride. You can see this lovely elevated back in the horse on this photo – compliments to the rider!
In this position and only in this position, can our horse carry us with strength and be happy about it – whether we are heavy riders or not.
The second lesson in the free lesson set The 9 Keys to Happiness with Your Horse talks about the simple Comfort Zone model that I use, which is the very beginning of the foundation for being able to achieve that self carriage quickly and easily.
If you are more impatient than that and would like a plan to fast track that beautiful seat on a happy horse, then email me jenny@jennypearce.com.au and we’ll talk about how you can personally reach your dreams with your horse.
